Jiří Černický – Sunset of the Earth from the Sun

The exhibition Jiří Černický – Sunset of the Earth from the Sun runs at Galerie Lázně Liberec from 28 March to 5 July 2026. It presents nearly 80 drawings and monumental installations, the most striking being a work titled Hamak – a suspended scientific gondola equipped with technological instruments for observing the surroundings, scientific work, and the researcher's life. In his drawings, objects, and installations, Černický explores the possibilities and limits of progress, with the exhibition full of absurdities, inverted concepts, and original ideas – from a coal-powered space shuttle through the planet's blood circulation to the anatomy of a ghost. The artist is fascinated by the connection between science and art in the early stages of research, when creative thinking is an essential prerequisite for every discovery. The accompanying programme includes guided tours with commentary, a catalogue launch (28 May 2026), a meeting with the artist (11 June 2026), and an educational programme for schools called Laboratory of the Impossible, in which students become researchers.
