Schools – On the Surface and Below the Surface
Veletržní palác, Prague
An educational programme for school groups focused on the theme of water – its properties, transformations, and artistic representation. In a studio set up as a laboratory, students experiment with water and create images formed on the surface and below the surface. In the exhibition, they explore how diverse painters at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries depicted landscapes with calm waters, wild currents, and waterfalls.
The programme develops visual literacy, the ability to distinguish artistic approaches, and to share personal observations. It also contributes to environmental education through understanding water properties and appreciating landscape diversity.
Artists featured in the programme: Antonín Hudeček, Antonín Slavíček, František Kupka, Bohumil Kubišta, Charlotta Pipenhagenová, and others.
