Pedagogical Workshop: HIT BY NEWS

A workshop for teachers offering two types of work with mass media: a historical approach focused on comparing and the history of media, and active engagement with contemporary art from the exhibition HIT BY NEWS combined with collaborative creation and reflection.

14:00–15:30 History of Reading
The workshop traces the transformation of reading practices in relation to the technologies used – from parchment to digital media – and compares different reading strategies shaped by the culture of the era, such as Christian lectio divina and reading competitions for the Julius Fučík badge. The historicization of reading and the history of media are presented as tools for interdisciplinary teaching.
The workshop will be led by historian Kamil Činátl, who works on education at Charles University's Faculty of Arts and contributed to the development of the HistoryLab application and the research textbook Contemporary History.

15:45–18:00 DJ Curator: HIT BY NEWS
The DJ Curator educational programme introduces the role of the curator in contemporary art and the importance of selection. The exhibition project HIT BY NEWS is based on the collection of Annette and Peter Nobel from Switzerland, which contains over 2,000 artworks focused on the dialogue between art and print; the exhibition then presents a selection of several hundred of them arranged in physical space. Participants will experience, against the backdrop of the exhibition, what role curatorial "selection" plays in artistic practice.
