Top Gun double feature

A double screening of two films separated by more than thirty-five years: the original Top Gun from the 1980s and its recent sequel starring Tom Cruise as Maverick.

The first film is a window into American exceptionalism at a time when skilled fighter-jet piloting seemed more like an art form than preparation for aerial combat. Young rebel Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, loyal friendship with a tragic end, and the pop megahit "Take My Breath Away" are its defining elements.

In the sequel, Maverick is now a mature man, but still a rebel obsessed with flying. He has access to the finest fighter jets and a group of young pilots to train — and the filmmakers, rather than relying on digital effects, took to the actual sky once again.
