Štěpánka Balcarová & Małgorzata Hutek Quartet
A new Czech-Polish quartet led by trumpeter and composer Štěpánka Balcarová continues her successful projects inspired by Polish poetry, building on the acclaimed albums Life and Happiness of Julian Tuwim (2017) and the orchestral Štěstí (2022), which won the Anděl Prize in the jazz category. The current project Zuzanna brings to life poems by Polish Jewish poet Zuzanna Ginczanky (1917–1944), whose poetry is marked by extraordinary sensitivity, irony, and reflection of her era.
Alongside Štěpánka Balcarová and acclaimed Polish vocalist Małgorzata Hutek, the quartet features bassist Jaromír Honzák and guitarist David Dorůžka – prominent figures of the Czech jazz scene who frequently collaborate with Polish musicians in their own projects.
The concert is supported by the Polish Institute Prague and the Adam Mickiewicz Institute.
