Love goes through the stomach, they say. For Justine, that means not eating animals - or so she thinks, until she enrolls at veterinary school, where her sister also studies and where both her parents studied before. But no one told her that as a newcomer she would be bullied at school and forced to eat meat. From that moment on, the vegetarian slowly but surely begins to become a cannibal.

The debut feature film by French director Julie Ducournau addresses the question of where such a transformation comes from, directly and fiercely. At the same time, it opens a broader theme: humans and animals are not as distant from each other as it might seem.
