Lecture: Baroque, Baroque Architecture and Baroque Monuments in the Votice Region — Votice Monastery, Votice

We invite you to a lecture on Baroque in the Votice region, prepared by PhDr. Ivana Preislerová. The lecture will focus on understanding people in the Baroque period, Baroque piety, and architecture with its fundamental characteristics.

The speaker will also introduce listeners to the Baroque monuments of the Votice region and its surroundings.

About the venue: Votice Monastery

The former Franciscan monastery of St. Francis of Assisi in Votice is a Baroque monastic complex founded in 1627 by Count Sezima z Vrtby. Its current form dates from a major reconstruction in 1766–1771. After being seized by the communist secret police in 1950 and used for industrial purposes, the monastery was restored and reopened in 2015 as a cultural centre. Visitors can explore permanent exhibitions (Franciscan life, regional museum, pram and doll collection, Gallery of St. Francis), seasonal exhibitions, and cultural events.
