59th Slany Jazz Days - Friday Evening
Tereza Rychlá & The Masters
The Friday evening will open with singer, actress and host Tereza Rychlá and her band The Masters. Tereza is known from Czech theatre stages, television series and films; alongside her acting career, she has long been devoted to jazz and swing. The Masters band consists of three Czech jazz musicians, with a repertoire spanning jazz and swing standards, Latin American rhythms and original compositions in fresh arrangements.
Line-up: Tereza Rychlá - vocals, Jára Bárta - piano, Jan Greifoner - double bass, Branko Křižek - drums.
Ježek Traces Orchestra & Bohuslav Ježek
The second part of the evening will feature the Ježek Traces Orchestra, which will celebrate the golden era of Czech swing and the legacy of two musicians who would be marking milestone anniversaries this year: composer and pianist Jaroslav Ježek (1906-1942) and accordionist and composer Kamil Běhounek (1916-1983), who spent his childhood in Slaný and is considered the first Slaný jazz musician. The orchestra brings together musicians continuing the legacy of the Liberated Theatre and the sound of great dance orchestras, with a repertoire of Jaroslav Ježek compositions, other Czech songs from the 1930s and 1940s, and beloved swing and jazz melodies.
Singing are Lenka Švestková and Jaroslav Diviš, hosted by Radek Žitný. Since Kamil Běhounek was an accordionist and the accordion plays a key role in many of his compositions, accordionist Bohuslav Ježek will join the orchestra for the first time, already known to Slaný audiences. The second guest will be Kamil Běhounek's grandson - clarinetist, saxophonist, educator and conductor Otakar Martinovský.
