My Homeland - Gala Concert Commemorating the Anniversary of Czechoslovak Independence

A gala concert commemorating the anniversary of Czechoslovak independence will feature Bedřich Smetana's symphonic poem cycle "My Homeland". The work will be performed by the West Bohemian Symphony Orchestra under the direction of chief conductor Michaela Rózsa Růžičková.

Smetana's "My Homeland" was composed between 1874 and 1879 and ranks among the most powerful works of Czech symphonic repertoire. The six symphonic poems weave together images of Czech landscape, legends, history and national traditions - from the legendary "Vyšehrad" through the flowing "Vltava" and Czech nature to the Hussite motifs in the concluding sections "Tábor" and "Blaník".
