Description was written before the event

Inherent Vice is set in 1970 and stars Joaquin Phoenix as Larry "Doc" Sportello, a private detective from the California beach town of Gordita Beach. Doc is persuaded by his ex-girlfriend Shasta Fay Hepworthová to investigate the disappearance of a wealthy real estate broker - the man who caused her to leave him.

During his investigation, mostly in a marijuana-fueled haze, Doc uncovers a web of interconnected conspiracies. Implicated are the police, neo-Nazis, gangsters, drug dealers, dentists, rehabilitation facilities, rockers, the federal government, and the traditional New England establishment.
