Once on Crutches, Once on Knives

It sounds like a joke, but the pensioners don't find it funny. They have a serious problem on their hands – grievous bodily harm. They attacked the Minister of Social Affairs, who came with a new programme for seniors. And now everything is at stake. Will they manage to get free with the help of the young Dr. Kluppse, or will they really end up behind bars?

Anita Augustin's exceptional play combines detective fiction with dark humour, borderline trauma, and elements of cool drama. Young souls in decaying bodies refuse to end up on the scrap heap of cultivated wisdom and stiffened limbs – Augustin tears to shreds the images of kindly old ladies resigned to life and approaching dementia.

The play is an indictment of civilisational prejudices and a system that quietly devours the soul – and it speaks not only of burnout that comes with age, but of burnout that teenagers can already know. The story continues to surprise right up to the very end.
