Tukino 2026 / Screening of Pink Dreams + Discussion with Iva Bittová

Screening of the film Pink Dreams (directed by Dušan Hanák, Czechoslovakia, 1976, 81 minutes, Czech with English subtitles) on the occasion of 50 years since its creation.

Pink Dreams is a bittersweet poetic tale about the love of a young postman Jakub for the beautiful Romca. The village is small, everyone knows each other, and Jakub is a natural part of life in every family. Jolana lives on the edge, in a Roma settlement, surrounded by her large family, daily surrounded by children and family duties. But love cannot be commanded, even when it is forbidden.

Following the screening, there will be a discussion 50 years after Pink Dreams. The film offers a remarkably diverse gallery of Roma female characters for its time - from a temperamental mother through an emancipated clerk to Jolana played by Iva Bittová, the young heroine of an almost Shakespearean love story.

Guest: Iva Bittová. Moderators: Alica Sigmund Heráková, Ivona Shafaq.
