La Strada
Municipal Theatre Kladno, Kladno
A story of love and cruelty set in the circus world, adapted from Federico Fellini's acclaimed film.
La Strada tells the story of naive and kind-hearted Gelsomina, whom her family sells to Zampano, a rough traveling circus performer. The narrative follows their turbulent relationship as they journey across Italy, focusing primarily on Zampano's awakening emotions and the transformation he undergoes under Gelsomina's influence.
Human destiny is woven from three parts - body, mind, and soul. The body represents physicality, outer appearance and abilities; the mind governs intellect and emotional intelligence; the soul, residing in the heart, commands emotions. The delicate balance of these three aspects guides a person through the labyrinth of their own fate - and metaphorically, they can be compared to the main characters of the story: Zampano embodies the body as a physical vessel, Matto the fool embodies the soul.
