Fighter
Jan Wiener (1920-2010) fled the Nazis during World War II through Yugoslavia and Italy to Great Britain, where he served as an RAF pilot. After returning home, he ended up in a communist labor camp, later emigrated again, and settled in Lenox, Massachusetts. His close friend was screenwriter, author, and journalist Arnošt Lustig (1926-2011), who spent part of his youth in a concentration camp. Both are protagonists of a film that follows Wiener's former "route."
An aging emigrant revisits the sites of his dramatic and tragic experiences and meets people who once helped him. But his story is also told by Arnošt Lustig, who perceives his friend's past differently - as a series of odyssey-like tales. The witness and the storyteller disagree about everything that happened and what it meant - Lustig is so convinced of his interpretation that it sometimes even threatens their friendship.
