How to Feed a Dictator? Part Five: Saddam Hussein
How to Feed a Dictator is a collective theatrical cycle inspired by Witold Szabłowski's book. In the chapter "Thief's Fish Soup," Spielraum Collective focuses on the story of Saddam Hussein and his personal chef.
Dictator, chef, and kitchen - grand history in the intimate space of everyday life, power, obedience, fear, loyalty, survival. Thief's Fish Soup is a story about living in proximity to power, about the ordinary that can exist alongside violence, and about the boundaries between service, complicity, and survival. How much fear, loyalty, and desire for a strong leader do we need for a dictatorship to emerge? And what are we willing to add to the pot when we think it doesn't concern us?
The dictator doesn't always have to be the beginning of the story - the pot is.
This is a work-in-progress of Spielraum Collective's authorial project, created in co-production with the Krajinou přílivu association and the Rekultur platform.
