Pavilion Czechoslovakia 100: Premiere of the Film "The Venetian Pavilion" and Book Launch
The evening features the premiere of the film "The Venetian Pavilion" and the launch of the publication "Pavilion Czechoslovakia 100. Czech, Slovak and Czechoslovak Representation at La Biennale di Venezia". Both projects commemorate the centenary of the pavilion's opening in Venice. The programme includes a discussion with selected authors of the publication and film.
The Czechoslovak Pavilion in Venice has served for 100 years to showcase Czech and Slovak art and architecture. It stands on the main axis of the Giardini della Biennale exhibition complex. Designed by architect Otakar Novotný (1880-1959), a leading figure of the interwar architectural scene, it combines modern and classical references and stands alongside the architecture of the neighbouring pavilions of France, England and Germany.
The collective monograph and film trace the history of the pavilion and Czechoslovak, respectively Czech and Slovak representation at the Venice Biennale, while also examining the ongoing challenges associated with exhibiting contemporary art at this international showcase.
