Good Architecture Comes from Pilsen: Professors and Students of the German Industrial School in Pilsen 1876-1928 — Masné Krámy Exhibition Hall, Pilsen

In 2026, it will be 150 years since the founding of one of the first industrial schools in Bohemia, which played a key role in the region's development in mechanical engineering and construction. For more than fifty years, it was a place where prominent pedagogical figures gathered. Until 1913, it was the only such institution for construction education not only in western but also southern Bohemia - among its graduates were later renowned architects Jan Kotěra, František Krásný, and Kamil Hilbert.

The project focuses on professor-architects, many of whom were significant creators but are now largely forgotten. It also recalls the circumstances of the school's founding, its structure, development, activities and locations, and mentions the most important graduates who devoted themselves to architectural work or construction business.

This is the first attempt to document and commemorate this institution, which has been almost forgotten and erased from history since the interwar period, when it was relocated from Pilsen.

The exhibition will present reproductions and originals of historical plans and photographs of buildings, a newly created architectural model, period publications and artifacts. The collected information will also be used in a publication of the same name, which aims to contribute to understanding an important stage of regional history with national and international significance for German-speaking neighboring countries.
