The Perfect Farce
Amfiteátr Kraví hora, Brno
Herbert Gladney spent ten years writing the book "Marriage for Life" and is now on tour with his wife Rebecca to boost its dismal sales. But writing the book has taken its toll on their relationship – the marriage that advises how to last "for life" seems unlikely to survive itself. Both desperately try to hide their contradictions, because who would take marriage advice from someone whose own marriage is falling apart.
The Gladneys check into a hotel where they plan to perform in an evening show hosted by Pamela Blair. She roams the hotel with a cameraman looking for a scandal – but at first misses a national-level bombshell: in the adjacent suite, a senator and presidential candidate Ryan is secretly staying with his mistress. The situation is further complicated by the connecting door between the two rooms and a cast of other characters – Ukrainian maid Nina, a mad nun Barbara (author of the song "Marriage for Life" that she plans to sing in the show), hotel bellhop Bill with a phenomenal memory for faces, and finally the senator's jealous wife with the build and strength of a wrestler.
A comedy for two actors who alternate roles, costumes, accents, wigs and masks. The pace of costume changes is sometimes so fast that it seems impossible for two people to pull off – yet productions around the world prove that it can be done.
