Chica Checa

After a trilogy of low-budget films, two of which - Mirrors in the Dark and Then Love Came - premiered at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, director Šimon Holý returns with the international co-production Chica Checa. Once again, he places a woman at the centre of the story: Zdena, a widowed rural postwoman (Pavla Tomicová), who tries to fulfil her dying mother's last wish. A series of unexpected events brings her closer to her son Lukáš (Jan Cina) and awakens in her a desire for a different life. Holý once more demonstrates his observational talent and ability to portray the inner conflict of his characters with nuance, while giving Tomicová generous space to fully display her dramatic talent.
