Lecture: Japanese Textiles - Practicality, Beauty and Secrets
What stories can a piece of fabric tell? In Japan, textiles are far more than just material - behind their beauty lie centuries of tradition, ingenious techniques, natural materials, colours and symbolism. The lecture will guide you through the entire process step by step: from silk fibres through weaving, dyeing and decoration to the creation of a finished kimono.
It won't be just talk and pictures - the programme includes a practical demonstration and the opportunity to examine and touch various Japanese fabrics.
Lecturer: Klára Poskočilová, costume designer at Kyogen Theatre and programme director of the Eigasai film festival.
