Architecture Day: Prague - Vladimir 518: Concrete People
Artist Vladimir 518 discusses the ideals that shaped Czech housing estates and the culture that emerged on them, in conversation with architect and urban planner Zdeněk Hölzel and musician Orion.
Two lectures and debates present the same-named audio series created for Czech Radio Vltava. They explore the origins of Czech prefabricated housing, the culture and counterculture associated with it, as well as the post-1989 transformation of housing estates and the search for new quality of life in panel blocks. The radio series premieres on September 23 on ČRo Vltava, in the mujRozhlas mobile app, and on other streaming services.
The event takes place in the Kupa restaurant on the top floor of the Czech Republic's tallest panel building. The Kupa hostel was built in 1980 as accommodation for state employees. Two buildings, now owned by the Ministry of Interior, are connected by a bridge passage; the taller tower (81 meters) features large clocks.
Note: these are two separate lectures; one ticket is valid for one of them.
