Songs of the Partisans

"Songs of the Partisans" is a trilingual walking performance about women fighters in Lithuania, France, and Ukraine. It explores what it means to resist, refuse to surrender, and maintain strength even in the most terrifying moments.

The performance features stories of women who fought against oppression, occupation, injustice, and inhumane conditions - from the past to the present day. In France during World War II, women in the resistance movement against the Nazis took on every role, from armed combat to typewriter work and forging documents. In Lithuania, from 1944 onwards, they joined men in resisting Soviet occupation, hiding with them in forests, serving as couriers, sheltering in bunkers, and writing poetry. In Ukraine today, more than 60,000 women are fighting to defend their country against Russian aggression - doctors, teachers, journalists, politicians, and artists. The performance asks: what would these women say to each other if they could meet.

The work is created by storytellers Milda Varnauskaitė and Ariane Pawin in collaboration with singer Oksana Zhuravel-Ohorodnyk.

The performance is multilingual, interpreted into English, with an introductory segment in Czech. There is no seating during the walk, and the route is not wheelchair accessible. Recommended for ages 15 and up due to language and content complexity. During the performance, a programme is available for children aged 3-12 at Tady creative hub, Otakarova 32.
