Architecture Day: Brno - Reissigova Villa — Reissigova vila, Brno

A guided tour of the most modern house in the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, led by architecture historian Dagmar Černoušková.

The Reissigova villa on Hlinky Street was built in 1902 and contemporary press already called it the most modern house in the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. It was designed by architect Leopold Bauer, author of the famous Breda & Weinstein department store in Opava, for prominent Brno lawyer Karel Reissig. The villa stood out for its high level of technical equipment and luxurious interiors, whose design - like the garden - was also created by Bauer.

The garden included extensive sports facilities, which unfortunately no longer survive: a tennis court that served as an ice rink in winter, a small swimming pool, sun baths, a bowling alley, and a garden house. The entire design was built on the principle of caring for both physical and mental health.
