Architecture Day: Prague - Rothmayer Villa
Mon, 5 Oct 2026 · 14:00
The private residence of architect Otto Rothmayer, built in 1928-1929, stands as a significant example of Czech interwar modernism. Rothmayer, a student of Slovenian architect Josip Plečnik, created a comprehensive architectural work here that integrates building, interior, and garden into a unified whole. He designed not only the villa itself but also its furnishings, fencing, garden, and outdoor furniture, with his wife Božena Rothmayerová, a textile artist, contributing to the design. Because the house remained in family ownership until 2008 and underwent minimal structural changes, an exceptionally authentic environment has been preserved, now restored to its appearance from the turn of the 1950s-60s.
