Happy Together

There were two of them, and nothing else mattered. They set out on a long journey — and suddenly everything changed, and what no one wanted appeared. On the other side of the world, in a rented room in the middle of Buenos Aires, Lai Yiu-Fai wonders why he is even here.

The film "Happy Together" brought director Kar-Wai Wong his first significant recognition on the international stage: at the 1997 Cannes Film Festival, it won the Prize for Direction. The story of a homosexual couple whose relationship falls apart without either of them knowing why partly shocked audiences with its openness and simultaneously fascinated them with its original approach to cinematic storytelling, ostentatiously ignoring any known rules.
