Architecture Day: Kladno - Workers' Colonies of Kročehlav — Zastávka MHD U Meisnerů, Kladno

A guided walk through two workers' colonies in Kročehlav led by Tomáš Voldrábek, head of the Mining Skansen Mayrau and an expert on Kladno's industrial heritage.

From the second half of the 19th century, industrial development attracted thousands of new residents to the region, and the city struggled with a chronic housing shortage. The companies themselves sought solutions, building extensive colonies for their employees. Two of these rank among the most valuable urban ensembles in the Kladno area: the Prague Iron Works Company colony in Kročehlav from the early 20th century and the colony known as Poldi Siedlung, built during the Nazi occupation according to designs by Reich architect Werner Knapp.

The walk will focus on the origins of both colonies and their characteristic architectural and urban features.
