Michal Pavlíček and Trio — Měšťanská Beseda, Pilsen

Michal Pavlíček is known in Czech rock primarily as a guitar virtuoso, but composition and arrangement are equally essential to his musical identity - from rock songs through theatre music to collaborations with symphony orchestras.

He began his career in the 1970s in the amateur band Expanze, then moved to Bohemia and co-founded Pražský výběr with Michal Kocáb before the decade's end. He formed the core of Jany Koubková's trio Horký dech, collaborated with Stromboli and Bára Basikova, worked on the BSP project (where he wrote the hit "Země vzdálená" for Kamil Střihavka), the instrumental ensemble Big Heads, and the Supergroup. He contributed to albums by Zuzana Michnová ("Rány") and Monika Načeva ("Možnosti tu sou, Mami"), collaborated with Richard Müller, Jiří Stivín, and Miroslav Vitouš. He composed music for twenty-three theatre productions, several ballets, Laterna Magika féeries, and forty television titles altogether - including BBC series "Red Dwarf" and "Merlin IV" - as well as feature films such as "The Departure of Václav Havel". In musicals, he made his mark especially with "Excalibur". His name appears on more than seventy CDs and DVDs; he holds gold and platinum records and two Anděl awards. For more than a decade he was a central figure in the Czech Television music programme "Na Kloboučku".

At the concert he will perform leading the Čombeband (a nickname referring to the former Congolese separatist Tshombe, by which musicians know him). The ensemble consists of drummer Miloš Meier (Drumming Syndrome, Dymytry) and bassist Martin Ivan (Mother's Funkers, Precedens). Depending on scheduling, keyboardist Michal Nejtek (Koller Band, Agon Orchestra), a composition graduate from the Academy of Performing Arts and author of contemporary classical music, expands the trio.
