Marie NDiaye: Ghosts of Everyday Life

French writer, playwright, and screenwriter Marie NDiaye discusses her magical realist literary world in conversation with Guillaume Basset. They will explore the novel "Witches", which was shortlisted for the International Booker Prize this year, as well as the novelistic triptych "Three Powerful Women".
Marie NDiaye is one of the most prominent authors of contemporary French literature. She won the Prix Femina for "Rosie Carpe" (2001) and the Prix Goncourt for "Three Powerful Women". Her prose works "Witches" (2007, translated by Ivana Tomková, Argo) and "Ladivine" (2021) have been published in Czech; "Three Powerful Women" was published by Jota in 2010 in Ivana Tomková's translation. She is the author of more than twenty books - novels, plays, and children's literature.
Guillaume Basset is a French poet living in Prague, currently dramaturge of the International Book Fair and the literary festival World of Books. He has published in French journals Mercure liquide, Verso, Provisoire, and Zone; his debut poetry collection "Fire of Your Loved Ones" (2017) was published bilingually by Dauphin.
The programme lasts 60 minutes and takes place in French with interpretation into English and Czech.
