Kiran Millwood Hargrave: In the Light of the Lighthouse: Julie and the Shark

British author, poet and playwright Kiran Millwood Hargrave will present her book "Julie and the Shark" - a story about a girl whose mother becomes obsessed with hunting a mysterious Greenland shark on a remote island, and her obsession begins to threaten the entire family. The book is illustrated by British artist Tom de Freston. Moderated by Daniela Retková.
Her books published in Czech include "The Girl of Ink and Stars" (2017), "The Island at the End of Everything" (2018), "When Winter Comes" (2019), "Julie and the Shark" (2023), "Leila and the Blue Fox" (2023), "In the Shadow of the Wolf Queen" (2025), "On the Wings of the Hawk" (2025) and "Before the Gates of the Underworld" (2026). The novel "At the Mercy" (2021) was also published in Czech, set in the 17th century and inspired by witch trials, for which the author won the Betty Trask Award and British Book Awards Children's Book of the Year. Her latest novel "Almost Life" (2026) follows the love of two women whose lives repeatedly intersect over several decades. Millwood Hargrave's books have been translated into more than thirty languages.
The programme lasts 60 minutes and takes place in English.
