Architecture Day: Zdislava - Villa Below Ještěd

A residential house built between 2001 and 2003 will be presented by its architect, Zdeněk Zavřel. The story of this "house on a hill" is closely tied to the architect's family history and their connection to the village of Zdislava. After thirty years working in the Netherlands, Zavřel purchased a plot in the upper part of the village and, following difficult negotiations, obtained permission to build using traditional materials. Construction began in 2001 and the house was habitable by the following year.

The building, laid out in an open V-shape, is designed for two families with separate bedroom areas and a shared kitchen adjacent to a spacious living area. It stands out for its absence of right angles, a slate roof that descends to ground level, and a larch-wood facade. Structurally, it combines timber-frame construction with traditional masonry, includes green roofs, and the entire urban design concept is oriented toward panoramic views of Ralsko and the surrounding landscape. The terraced garden is the work of the architect's wife.
