Architecture Day: Prague - Southwest City
took place · 3 Oct 2026
Description was written before the event
A guided tour of one of the Czech Republic's largest residential complexes, led by architecture historian Radomíra Sedláková.
The residential ensemble was developed from the 1970s onwards according to architect Ivo Oberstein's design as a thoughtfully planned whole connected to the metro line. It comprises Stodůlky, Lužiny, Nové Butovice and Velká Ohrada, with the Prokop Stream valley and its green belt preserved between them. Characteristic features include open courtyards created by angled prefabricated apartment blocks, pedestrian routes separated from vehicle traffic, and a network of footbridges connecting the different sections.
