Architecture Day: Prague - Post War Architecture in the City Centre (English only)
Právnická fakulta Univerzity Karlovy, Prague
A guided walk with architect Štěpán Beneš from the Mapamátky association focusing on post-war architecture in central Prague - buildings preserved, transformed, and lost from the 1960s to 1980s.
The walk will compare different approaches to reconstruction: the Fairmont Golden Prague hotel, renovated with respect for the original design, contrasts with the former headquarters of the International Union of Students, rebuilt almost beyond recognition. Along the route you will see the Kotva department store, the main railway station, the new building of the National Museum, and we will also recall the fate of Transgas.
This event is part of Architecture Day: Prague. The lecture is held in English only.
