Day of Architecture: Housing in the Whirlwind of Modernity

A guided walk through the city with architect Miro Beňák, focusing on the 20th century, particularly the interwar period, the rise of modernism and functionalism, and the development of residential districts.

The tour at selected locations will present the phenomena of modernism that influenced housing, architecture and urban development of the city, its rapid growth and the historical background of individual periods.

Participants will see buildings of the first municipal rental apartments, functionalist structures set within the historical urban fabric, and the more controversial residential developments built on the ruins of entire streets in the historic city centre.
