Tour of Nevřeň Underground

Kaolinový důl Nevřeň, Nevřeň

The Nevřeň kaolin mine is a preserved deep mine where white miners extracted kaolin in the late 19th century for nearly 30 years. The tour winds through a labyrinth of corridors and halls reaching heights of up to 12 metres — the walls bear traces of manual excavation, soot-blackened ceilings from carbide lamps, modern folk creativity, and part of the set decorations from fairy-tale film shoots. The underground maintains a constant temperature of 10 °C, and the tour lasts nearly an hour; it includes information about kaolin extraction and processing, the mine's history, and its significance in the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries.

The tour begins at the scheduled time directly at the mine. Visitors should arrive in Nevřeň approximately 30 minutes before the start; from the car park at the Caolinum Nevřeň Centre, a marked educational trail called Pod Zemí leads to the mine. The Caolinum Nevřeň Centre offers information, toilets, souvenir sales, and refreshments.

The mine is not wheelchair accessible. Entry is forbidden for children under 4 years old and animals. By purchasing a ticket, the visitor agrees to comply with the visit regulations.
