Věra Jirousová (née Vařilová)
Venuše ve Švehlovce, Prague
A theatrical production about one of the most remarkable figures of the Czech underground — a poet, art historian, dissident, and signatory of Charter 77. A woman who stood alongside Ivan "Magor" Jirouse and Jiří Němec, but above all sought her own voice during the era of a totalitarian state.
The creators draw from her early diaries (Tweety 1956–1963), personal correspondence, and a previously unprocessed archive, as well as from the memories and accounts of her son Tobiáš Jirouse. The production views one life from two childhood perspectives — first through the eyes of a girl growing up in the 1950s, then through the perspective of her son, who shared her complex and intense world.
An authentic portrait of a woman who refused to submit to her time.
