Semler Residence Tour – Museum Night

The Semler Residence represents the most significant and extensive realization of Adolf Loos's concept in Plzeň. The project was prepared and executed by his student Heinrich Kulka. The apartment building of the Oskar and Jana Semler family ranks among the leading monuments of modern architecture in Central Europe. The apartment lacks classical floors; instead, it is generously integrated throughout half of the building, allowing the use of the so-called Raumplan principle, typical of Loos's work. Individual spaces of varying heights are arranged across six levels around a central living hall. The Semler Residence thus represents a certain culmination of Adolf Loos's (1870–1933) activity in Plzeň. The West Bohemian Gallery in Plzeň has managed the building since 2012.
