Silent Heroism Brno: Stories from World War II
Institut Paměti národa Brno, Brno
The permanent exhibition "Silent Heroism" is an interactive exposition that takes visitors on a journey through 20th-century history. Rather than simply listening to testimonies from those who lived through totalitarian regimes, visitors actively participate in exploring memories and use tablets to influence and shape the adventure themselves. Unconventional projections, visual and sound effects, interactive screens, and augmented reality all enhance the experience.
Visitors can choose from two historical periods. During one visit, they experience the story of one witness. The exhibition can be visited four times, each time leaving with a different experience.
- Stories from the 1950s: Milena and Leopold
- Stories from World War II: Jaryna and Tomáš
The stories of these four heroes were selected from more than ten thousand interviews in the Memory of the Nation collection, and they share one thing: all of them selflessly helped others through their courageous actions, despite often risking their own safety.
The inspiring life stories of Jaryna and Tomáš confirm that not every hero is taught about in history classes. For the exhibition, stories were selected from more than ten thousand interviews in the Memory of the Nation collection, united by one common thread: both selflessly helped others through their courageous actions, despite often risking their own safety. They wanted to make life easier for those living in the difficult times of World War II.
The tour will introduce visitors to Jaryna's story, who saved dozens of Jews from deportation using a poisonous chemical compound. Tomáš Sedláček will guide visitors on his extraordinary journey across European World War II battlefields.
