Dance in Transformation

A concert by the piano duo Fourhands titled Dance in Transformation explores dance music across its stylistic, expressive, and national diversity - revealing how its character shifts depending on cultural and geographical context.

The duo consists of Kateřina Konopová (originally from Opava) and Irena Andruško (Ukraine). They began collaborating in autumn 2021 and have since performed with thematically conceived programmes that transcend the boundaries of classical music.

The first half of the evening features 19th-century European music: selections from Antonín Dvořák's Slavonic Dances, Johannes Brahms's Hungarian Dances, and Edvard Grieg's Norwegian Dances. The programme is built primarily on four-hand piano, which allows both performers full sonic dialogue.

The second half brings a striking contrast - 20th-century South American music. Solo passages will feature works by Cuban composer Ernesto Lecuona and Argentine composer Alberto Ginastera. The programme culminates in music by Astor Piazzolla: the cycle Four Seasons in Buenos Aires and Libertango.
