Theatre of Blood — Venuše Ve Švehlovce, Prague
Description was written before the event

"The idea that there are only two sexes is more of a cultural construction than a biological necessity." - Judith Butler

A young man and an old woman. Or is it the other way around?

The production "Theatre of Blood" is an extravagant statement about finding oneself in a world where the boundaries of identity are constantly rewritten. A fragmented and personal narrative of two generationally distant figures opens up themes of embodiment and origin - a search on the body and in language.

Actress and singer Hana Frejková understands identity as a process and transformation: "Roots are not something given, but something that is reassembled in speech and memory." Ondřej Macl emphasizes his queer nature in his poetic, essayistic and performative work: "To be fully human, non-binary identity and discovering my own femininity are appealing to me."

The creators work with the symbolism of blood as a carrier of heredity, memory and body - blood as an image that connects the past with the present and the body with the word. The production draws from these literary works: "Book of Blood" by Kim de l'Horizon, "Strange Roots" by Hana Frejková, and "I Love My Grandmother More Than Young Girls" and "Once in a Blue Moon" by Ondřej Macl.
