International Road Movie Festival 2026 — Moving Station, Pilsen

The ninth edition of the International Road Movie Festival (IRMF) runs from 22 to 25 October 2026 at Moving Station in Plzeň. The programme features more than 30 films in the road movie genre.

The festival opens on Thursday with the Iranian film "A Minor Accident" by Jafar Panahi (Golden Palm, Cannes Film Festival 2025). Friday evening brings Charlie Chaplin's grotesque "Gold Rush" from 1925 with live musical accompaniment blending techno and rap, performed by artist Hjörtur. Saturday's programme consists of a double feature by George Miller - "Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior" (1981) with Mel Gibson and the contemporary "Mad Max: Fury Road" in the black-and-white Black & Chrome Edition. Sunday morning is dedicated to a children's programme featuring the animated film "Shrek", and the festival closes with the co-production dark comedy "The Chicken" by Hungarian director György Pálfi.

The human rights film section BE EQUAL! is held in competitive format for the first time this year - featuring road movies with LGBTQ+ themes shown at international festivals. The accompanying programme includes the block "On the Road with ZČU", where students from the University of West Bohemia in Plzeň present and discuss their academic and professional journeys. This year they form the festival jury for the first time and award the student prize.

The foyer of Moving Station functions as a pop-up gastro zone every festival evening, with the café open all day.
