Description was written before the event

Twenty years of shared life between Vladimir Holan, the "black angel of poetry," and Jan Werich, the "national clown," in a villa on Kampa.

The villa on Kampa - U Sovových mlýnů 501/7, an apparent island of freedom amid the currents of history. Once Dobrovský's home, now Werich's villa. From 1945 until his death in 1980, Jan Werich lived here. In 1948, half a year after Jiří Voskovce's departure, Vladimir Holan moved into the ground floor. Twenty years of shared life between Hamlet and Falstaff - boisterous evenings and the most intimate prayers, too many words for the living and silence with ghosts. Three perpendicular metres - that was the distance then between one pole of Czech culture and the other.

Pavel Jurda's new play examines these legends in their conflicts and solitudes.
