A faded film director, Gustav, returns to Oslo after years away to offer his estranged daughter Nora the lead role in a film he has written for her. When Nora firmly rejects his unexpected offer, Gustav casts ambitious Hollywood actress Rachel Kemp instead, further straining their fragile family relationships. After the success of "The Worst Person in the World", Joachim Trier returned to Cannes with a sensitive comedy-drama about the healing power of art, which the jury honored with the Grand Prize.
