Modern Bubeneč

Bubeneč is today part of Prague 6, and its buildings reflect several decades at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries - a time when a small village outside Prague's city walls became a predominantly residential suburb. Alongside significant public buildings stand extensive blocks of apartment houses from the First Republic era, as well as numerous villas, many dating back to the monarchy.

The walk will recall how the present-day street network was gradually built and how a famous brick factory once filled a large part of the modern core of the district. We will also discuss the citizens of Bubeneč who became victims of two totalitarian regimes. The tour concludes with a building that has almost risen from the ashes and found new purpose thanks to dedicated people.
