Chica Checa

Fifty-three-year-old Zdena appears to lead an ordinary life as a rural postal worker. But it is far from simple. Her house is falling apart, and cucumbers and television help her cope with loneliness. Her son Lukáš lives in France - successful, happy, distant - or so it seems on the screen of an old computer, through which they occasionally stay in touch. When Lukáš's grandmother Věra expresses her final wish - to see Helena Vondráčková - it seems like the whim of a dying woman. But with Lukáš's return home comes a secret he has carefully guarded for years. His visit sets off a chain reaction: he reveals he is gay and works as a successful drag queen, Chica Checa. And Zdena, too, yearns for a different life than those around her expect. The effort to make a ninety-year-old grandmother happy brings Lukáš and Zdena together, and perhaps surprises them both. Because when you stop lying to those closest to you, you must stop lying to yourself as well.
