INDUSTRY / MEMORY: SCREENING WITH DISCUSSION | 12:00 - 13:30

12:00 - 12:40 | Screening

Ilona Ferková - "I Love to Laugh, I Love to Make Things Up" (with Ilona Ferková in attendance)
Ilona Ferková has lived many professions and life stories. She began writing in the 1980s after meeting Milena Hubschmannová - at the time she couldn't imagine writing a short story, let alone more. Today she is a member of the Romani writers' club Paramisara and the Romani women's group Manushe, has published books and written countless stories.
Directed by: Markéta Oddfish Nešlehová | Czech Republic, 2023, 17 minutes | Czech language without English subtitles

Ladislav Goral - "Free as a Bird"
"The only worldly justice is that we all must die." Ladislav Goral said this without bitterness - perhaps because from childhood he knew how cruel the world could be. During World War II he lost much of his family. Yet from a poor Romani boy he became a Romanist, activist, musician, actor and one of the key figures in post-revolutionary debate on minorities and democracy.

12:45 - 13:30 | Discussion: Who Can Tell the Story?

Documentary work does not arise only in film schools, television stations and production companies. For minority topics, the non-profit sector becomes an important initiator, enabling stories to emerge directly from communities and their experience. The portraits of Ilona Ferková and Ladislav Goral, produced by Slovo 21, raise the question of what this path brings to storytelling itself and to those who get the chance to tell their story.

Guest: Jelena Silajdžić, producer, Slovo 21
