How Is Theatre Created?

An interactive half-day workshop with creators from Divadlo Panoptikum.

This workshop will introduce participants to everything behind the creation of a theatrical production - from the initial idea, research and playwriting through to directing and rehearsals. Each topic will be illustrated with practical examples, and participants will have the chance to try it out immediately.

What the programme includes:

- How a theatrical play is created: what a playwright does, how themes, characters and dialogue emerge.
- Dramaturgy: who a dramaturg is, how text selection, adaptation and meaning-building work.
- Directing: how a director works with text, space and actors, and how a directorial concept develops.
- Lightning-fast staging process: participants will try to create a simple scene - taking on the roles of directors, dramaturgs and actors.

The workshop is led by playwright, director and dramaturg Martina Havierová and dramaturg and producer Petra Nižnanská. Both work in the independent theatre sector and are co-founders of the independent Divadlo Panoptikum.
