Architecture Day: Brno - Bulínova Villa

A guided tour of the normally inaccessible interior of Bulínova Villa on Květná Street, led by architectural historian Dagmar Černouškova.

The villa was originally owned by lawyer Hynek Bulín. It was designed by architect Vladimír Fischer, and artists Jano Köhler and Václav Hynek Mach contributed to its decoration. The interior spaces deserve special attention: zoomorphic and vegetable motifs adorn the staircase of the entrance hall and the private chapel of unknown dedication. Today the building houses the Institute of Vertebrate Biology of the Czech Academy of Sciences.

The design of the protected heritage garden was created alongside the villa's construction. In 1924, landscape architect Josef Kumpán designed this garden, which is considered an exemplary model of pre-war villa garden design.

The tour is organized by the Brno Architectural Manual in cooperation with the Institute of Vertebrate Biology of the Czech Academy of Sciences.
