About a Boy

Thirty-eight-year-old Will (Hugh Grant) is a typical London playboy - wealthy, single, and carefree. But when one of his girlfriends dumps him because of her own child, the experience leads him to a single parents' group, where he hunts among single and divorced women.

There one Sunday, through Susie (Victoria Smurfit), he meets Marcus (Nicholas Hoult) - an odd boy with an even odder mother, Fiona (Toni Collette). That weekend, when Fiona sends her son off with a neighbor, she attempts suicide, and Will finds himself unwillingly cast as a rescuer and soon after as a foster parent.

At first Marcus gets on Will's nerves and disrupts his favorite pastime of doing nothing. But gradually it becomes clear that Will needs this boy at least as much as Marcus needs him.
