Legends of Old Prague - Old Town and Jewish Quarter

Legends of old Prague with the "Prague with Eyes Wide Open" project.

Many stories are told about the memorable buildings and romantic streets of old Prague. This walk will focus on those that cannot be verified by reliable historical documents or testimonies - stories that, in all likelihood, never actually happened, yet were passed down from generation to generation through oral tradition, variously adapted and modified, until they were eventually recorded in literary form, for example in collections of Prague legends. Some reflect conditions that truly existed in past centuries, and occasionally feature real historical figures; others are more the product of folk creativity.

Participants will visit places connected with legends of ill-fated love, ancient crimes, lost or found treasures, and apparitions said to appear in such locations. And one of Prague's ghosts, participants will even see with their own eyes.

- Meeting point: at Karolina on the corner of Havelská and Železná streets
- Walk duration: approximately 2 hours (about 2.5 km)
- End point: at Charles Bridge on the Old Town side
