We Come from Far, Far Away (in Czech)

Inside a tent is a smaller tent, and inside that tent is a boy. He has travelled a long way, mostly on foot. He can show what he brought with him, explain why he set out on the journey, describe the route he took - but how his story will end, he cannot yet say.

The production "We Come from Far, Far Away" tells the story of two boys from Aleppo travelling to Norway. The journey leads through Turkey, Greece, Macedonia to Oslo, and along the way it speaks of things, people, places, and of life and death. A performance about refugee experience designed for younger audiences and adults unfolds inside a Mongolian yurt and employs live music, storytelling, clowning, shadow theatre, and a small tent.

The Divadla NIE ensemble created the project in collaboration with the Norwegian reception centre for refugees Hvalstad Transittmottak, which serves as the first reception point for young refugees (aged 13-18) arriving in Norway without parents. The production premiered at the Showbox Festival in Oslo in 2016, and has since had over 400 performances, touring festivals in the Czech Republic, Sweden, Denmark, England, Australia, Ireland, Slovenia, and Austria. In 2017 it won the prestigious Hedda Award for best performance for young audiences.

Suitable for viewers aged 10 and over. After each performance there is a discussion with the audience about the production and about refugee experience. The performance will be presented in Czech.
